Hey There! I’m Shannon! I’m so happy you found your way to Living Outside the Zoo!
Allow me to introduce myself! I’m just a 40-something-year-old girl from Oregon. I’m actually beating down the doors of 50 but as long as there is a 4 in my age, I’m sticking with the 40’s. In 1999 I moved to Colorado to “find myself” and start over. Not only did I find myself, I found a husband (Gregg), which led to a plant (Paul), then a dog (Quito), and eventually a son (Noah). And now, almost 20 years later, here we are, living smack in the middle of 5 major ski resorts in Summit County, Colorado. Life is pretty darn good!
Have you ever asked yourself, “What am I doing here? What is my purpose? Shouldn’t there be more to life? Is this really the right hair color for me?” Don’t get me wrong! I love my life, but the day-to-day of it all…working 40+ hours a week, taking 2 vacations a year, carpooling to school and back…just doesn’t feel like my “purpose.”
Luckily, I have an amazing husband that feels exactly the same as I do. And a son who is already 3 years into a Spanish immersion school and has traveled more in his short 8 years of life than I did in my first 25. Travel calls to us and we are constantly searching for those new horizons where experience holds more importance than money and things. It’s our dream to toss the unnecessary things in life aside, learn to live with just the basics and set out for the unknown. And that is exactly what we plan to do. In the fall of 2019, just about a year from now, we’re hitting the road for a year and heading south.
In the meantime…
We are saving and planning…saving a little more and searching for a home with wheels. We’re also figuring out the art of living without the “stuff” that drags us down, blinds us from our full potential and our view of what is really important in life, which to us means being together and discovering new horizons.
Read more about how we are saving for this adventure in our “Saving for Freedom” post.
Where will we go?
What will we find out there?
Will we ever come back?
Come along on the journey with us and we’ll figure it out together!
