New Orleans…aka…the Big Easy! It;s been a bucket list item for years and now I’m happy to say I have been twice. Once several years back with my girlfriend Vikki from Seattle, and the second time just recently for a work trip.
Both trips were amazing in their own way. But you only see someplace for the “first” time once. The first time around was a whirlwind of adventure and tours, from haunted ghost tours and cemeteries to music venues and street performers. The Big Easy is BIG on showing you a good time.
The people of New Orleans are truly an amazing, welcoming kind of people. And during my second visit for a work trip, I extended my stay and was invited to join a Mardi Gras parade krewe, along with my friend Michele. And that is where I experienced New Orleans like a local. We donned our attire in the “Krewe of Magical Creatures” and paraded through the back streets along with many other proud natives. Sometimes you don’t even know something is on your bucket list until you do it. This was one of those times.
If you ever visit New Orleans, and I hope you are lucky enough to do so, there is so much more to the city than the infamous Bourbon Street. Find yourself a local and get the inside scoop on where to go, where to eat and best of all, where to listen to some of the best music your ears will ever hear. Here are just a few of the favorites we came upon while in the Big Easy. Enjoy!
